tallow-catch

tallow-catch
This is thought by some editors of Shakespeare’s Henry the Fourth Part One to be what Prince Hal calls Falstaff, the full expression being ‘thou whoreson, obscene, greasy tallow-catch’. Tallow is a kind of animal fat used to make candles. Other editors have taken the word to be ‘tallow-ketch’ and interpreted it to mean ‘tub of tallow’. See also Fatty.
